Walter Hood artifact.

This figurine was found on the Wreck of the Walter Hood by a good friend of mine Steve Jarvis.
Steve and his wife Marcia donated the relic along with other valued pieces to the museums collection, you can see this and more, on display at the museum.
 
Continue reading the fascinating and tragic story of heroism, loss and waste of this remarkable ship, wrecked near Bendalong in 1870.

It’s not hard to imagine this fine figurine standing on display in the captains quarters, of course there is no evidence of that, it was found like so many other pieces of broken pottery, bottles and tiles, amongst the scant remains of the wreck while diving around 1976.
